Magda Mendes & Ward Veenstra

Magda Mendes, winner of the Golden Notecracker, is a Portuguese singer who has lived in Rotterdam for twenty years and is known for her small-scale and autonomous productions. Together with her regular accompanist and co-author Ward Veenstra, she released three albums: Casa da Bôxa – A musical and visual ode to the Portuguese countryside; Silêncio – With fado classics from her hometown Lisbon and Oliveiras – a personal project about her family's olive trees and the people who have cared for them for generations. She toured the major stages with this project.

In addition to her album work, Magda is currently touring with her latest program Com o Vento, in which she and her quartet give voice to songs she learned from the southwest wind, traveling north through the diverse landscapes of Portugal.

On May 25, Magda and Ward will come to the Stadspodium Rotterdam. During this concert, they will play both their own compositions and traditional fados and take the audience on a musical journey through Portugal.
