Live painting en Q&A met Abdalla Al Omari

The Boat by Abdalla Al Omari depicts world leaders in an overcrowded boat. Not as rulers, but as people who are forced to flee themselves. On World Refugee Day, Abdalla Al Omari will continue painting this artwork from the Fenix collection live. Which new face he will add? Only he knows.

Artist Abdalla Al Omari paints live

The Boat by Abdalla Al Omari depicts world leaders in an uncertain situation. They sit in an overcrowded boat, not as rulers, but as people who must flee themselves. The artwork is never finished, for leaders come and go, but the consequences of their choices remain. You watch along as Al Omari adds a new face to this extraordinary work.

Ask the artist everything you can think of

While Abdalla Al Omari paints, you can ask him questions. You engage in a conversation about the world leaders in The Boat , their decisions, and the current events behind them. In doing so, you gain a unique insight into the artist's work and way of thinking.

About The Boat and The Vulnerability Series

The 5-meter-long painting The Boat depicts world leaders such as Donald Trump, Angela Merkel, and Emmanuel Macron as refugees. They are seeking a better life. Al Omari deliberately placed the leaders in provocative combinations. For instance, Merkel stands next to Orbán and Trump next to Kim Jong-un. With this, he intends to say: 'we bear a shared responsibility for each other and for the world'.

Abdalla Al Omari on power and identity

Abdalla Al Omari (Syria, 1986) is an artist who works with paintings, video, and performances. His art often deals with power, conflict, and identity. Al Omari began his career in Damascus after the outbreak of the conflict in Syria. He now lives and works in Belgium. The Boat is part of The Vulnerability Series . In it, he portrays world leaders as vulnerable people, not as powerful figures.
