Insight into wildlife crime

Wildlife crime is a serious form of organized crime, comparable to drug, arms, and human trafficking. This multi-billion dollar industry disrupts ecosystems and sustains other serious crimes, such as terrorism. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and hantavirus may be linked to wildlife crime. Andro Vos, founder of the Wildlife Forensic Academy, takes you into the world of wildlife crime. He explains how forensic scientific knowledge is used to combat poaching, smuggling, and international organized crime. Andro also shares his personal story of his journey from Suriname to the courthouse. Years later, he stood in South Africa beside a killed rhinoceros.

International cooperation against wildlife crime

Andro Vos has extensive experience with wildlife crime. This experience led to the founding of the Wildlife Forensic Academy. This international initiative brings together science, investigation, and conservation to combat wildlife crime. The academy collaborates with more than 40 international universities. It offers training for professionals and various study programs. After the lecture, the book 'Spoorzoeken – De mondiale strijd tegen stroperij en misdaad', written by Andro Vos in collaboration with Danielle Franzen and published by Bertrand & Guy, will be available at the museum.
