Leemte ROTOR / De Coproducers
How do you find something you no longer know, or that is intangible? You do not know what you do not know, or what you were never told. In a void, something is missing, and that absence is palpable. We lose experiences, but not their pain and reality. How are we actually supposed to remember?
Because if we practice that the wrong way, we will head in the wrong direction. In their new performance Leemte, performance collective ROTOR practices remembering: together they search for what they have forgotten, or are going to forget.
Our collective memory is under pressure and the generation that can still recount the Second World War from their own experience is becoming smaller. With that, not only does a generation disappear, but also an embodied form of remembering: memory is shifting more and more from physical experience to a handed-down story. And as with every story, there is room for distortion, selection, and reinterpretation. With Leemte, ROTOR makes a radically empathetic attempt at practicing remembering, passing on physical experiences across generations, and how we can ensure that collective memory and, with it, shared values can remain standing.
