La codista Theater Rotterdam - Wunderbaum

Based on the story of Giovanni Cafaro, a Milanese who lost his job and stood in line for others for pay, Marleen Scholten wrote a new text about standing still. Standing still in line (la coda), for others in this case. In the queue she finds chaos and simplicity; people who come together in a place with only one purpose: to wait until it is their turn.

La codista is a personal text about identity and the desire to sometimes go slower. Perhaps not every answer is immediately within reach. The codista waits her turn together with the audience.

For this project, Marleen interviewed several residents of Italy about the meaning of standing still. In addition, she stood in many long lines to experience the mechanism of waiting herself.

She won the national Antonio Conti playwriting prize in Italy for the text La codista.
