Introdans honours master choreographer Jirí Kylián with a special focus programme. You will see a journey past iconic pieces such as Kinderspelen, Petite Mort and Chapeau. The company shows the power, beauty and emotion of his influential dance language. Kylián's vision is expressed not only in movement, but also in the staging, from lighting to costumes.
About the choreographies
In Petite Mort, Mozart's piano concertos 21 and 23 can be heard. Kylián chose the quiet movements as a contrast to the dynamic dance play of 12 dancers. Petite Mort is about life, love and death. For Kinderspelen, Kylián was inspired by the 16th-century painting Children's Games by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. Playful duets and group pieces come to life under the 'maypole'. Chapeau is a lively work set to music by Prince and Hawaiian music, created for the 25th anniversary of Queen Beatrix's reign.
Cinematic view
A film by Kylián highlights his vision of time, movement and art. A dancer's movement only exists in the moment, 'here and now'. Film provides a different perspective on the passage of time and is essential for this programme. The evening includes a screening of his short film Scalamare. In it, a couple who have been together for forty years celebrate their honeymoon all over again.
