KNEEBODY Reach - Grammy-nominated collective between jazz, rock and experimentation

Kneebody is a genre-defying quartet from Los Angeles that has occupied a unique place in the contemporary music world since 2001. Their sound is a powerful mix of the energy of rock, the complexity of chamber music and the freedom of jazz improvisation. With roots in both the classical tradition and the underground scene, Kneebody is a collective in which experiment and precision seamlessly merge.

The band consists of keyboardist Adam Benjamin, trumpeter Shane Endsley, saxophonist Ben Wendel, and multi-instrumentalist Nate Wood, who plays both bass and drums simultaneously—live and in the studio. Their musical collaboration began at a young age at the Eastman School of Music and CalArts, and has grown into a long-lasting, creative unit that is hard to compare to anything or anyone else.

Over the years, Kneebody have developed a distinctive yet ever-evolving style, influenced by everything from 60s free-bop and 70s jazz-rock to 90s hip-hop and contemporary indie. Their compositions are layered and rhythmically challenging, but always focused on mutual interaction and a collective sound.

With an impressive string of collaborations, a Grammy nomination and a constant drive for innovation, Kneebody continues to push boundaries. In 2025, Reach will be released – an album that will once again put their close interplay and adventurous spirit firmly on the map.
