Jazzebelle Gavin Reijnders

In Jazzebelle, comedian Gavin Reijnders tries to stay positive above all else. He wants to give the audience a fun evening, with music, humour and a touch of glamour. Gavin sees himself more as a showgirl than an activist. But is that even possible, in a time when everyone seems to have to have an opinion?

Together with jazz musician Nadine Rypkema, he transforms the theatre into an atmospheric jazz club. With songs, jokes and personal stories, he asks questions about responsibility, entertainment and nuance. Do you always have to make a statement, or are you also allowed to just provide fun?

Jazzebelle is not a heavy argument, but a musical evening full of self-mockery and energy. The performance balances between exuberant and vulnerable and shows that lightness can sometimes be very powerful. A festive evening with a sharp edge, wrapped in music and humour.
