Jacco Janssen - Recht over de Brug reprise

MMV Carrie and Trio De Flamingo's.

Already at Walhalla last season and back by popular demand: Recht over de Brug.

Recht over de Brug is an interactive theater lecture in which Jacco Janssen, as a criminal judge in Rotterdam, takes you into the world of the judiciary. Experience in Kantine Walhalla that administering justice is far from as black and white as it seems. Through real cases and recognizable dilemmas, you, as the audience, are actively involved.

Tonight, you get to help decide! Guilty or innocent? Punishment or acquittal? How long is a 25-year prison sentence really? Not a dry lecture, but an energetic and accessible performance full of surprising insights, sharp questions, and sometimes uncomfortable truths. Janssen challenges you to look beyond your first feeling, impression, or reasoning. Afterwards, you are guaranteed to view the justice system 180 degrees differently.

In every episode, Carrie delivers a thought-provoking column and Trio de Flamingo's sharpens the audience's focus with a musical plea.

Jacco is telling the same story as on May 12th.

The press on “I think he is a very good judge. Jacco Janssen has the ability to handle and discuss cases without jargon, using normal language. As a result, a real conversation takes place in the courtroom, and that is very important. Evenings like this should happen more often.” - Ivo Opstelten

About the creators: Jacco Janssen studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam. As a judge, he is known for his informal style as presiding judge and his open attitude towards defendants. He is an innovator in the Dutch criminal justice system; he critically examines the system and devises better forms. He also tries to bring criminal law closer to people in and on (social) media: "criminal law is there for the people, and not the other way around." In 2022, he wore an ankle monitor for a week as a trial. Carrie Jansen is a down-to-earth (imported) Rotterdammer. In a precise tone, she writes humorous columns in which she holds up a mirror to society. She has held the title of Master of Law since 2009 and ran her own law practice between 2010 and 2021. She now works with young women who have experienced violence and is, among other things, a columnist for the AD-RD. De Flamingo's consists of three seasoned, accomplished Rotterdam musicians. With saxophone, guitar, and double bass, this trio sings you through decades of quality music and (their own) Dutch-language songs.
