Howling Road (16+) De Dansers
On an almost empty stage, four dancers and two musicians return to the basics. To what remains when everything is taken away: the body, the voice and each other.
On an almost empty stage, four dancers and two musicians return to the basics. To what remains when everything is taken away: the body, the voice, and each other. In Howling Road, they search together for a place to land. Duos waltz like a whirlwind on one square metre, their feet beating a rhythm that grows into a polyphonic song. Howling Road is a passionate resistance and an exercise in connecting. A reminder of the richness and resilience that lies within the body itself. With powerful partner work and choral singing, Howling Road sketches the image of a group learning to rely on themselves and each other.
For Howling Road, De Dansers are collaborating with Amsterdam-based songwriter and singer Pitou Nicolaes, whose music is characterised by her enchanting, multi-coloured voice and idiosyncratic compositions. In this way, the performance becomes a hopeful echo for a world in which we may have less, but will need each other all the more.
