Hamlet: R2D2_or_not_2B2 De Warme Winkel

Ask AI about the highlight of theatre history and the answer is, without a shadow of a doubt: Hamlet. That comes as no surprise: Shakespeare's play is a virtuoso revenge drama that deals with timeless moral dilemmas surrounding love, madness, creativity and death.

Robots on stage

A group of robots takes over the theatre with an adaptation of Hamlet. Think of intelligent vacuum cleaners, bionic quadrupeds and androids struggling with existential questions. They try to reconstruct Shakespeare's world-famous play. They do this like shards of a broken vase. The robots lose themselves in their roles. At the same time, they reflect on the theatrical forms they use. Through the iconic characters, they explore what it means to be human.

Modern Hamlet

Hamlet stood on the threshold between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In the same way, we now stand on the threshold of a digital age. This adaptation of Hamlet by De Warme Winkel interprets the major changes of our time. The play examines whether our current worldview, just like that of the Middle Ages, will soon be outdated. R2D2_or_not_2B2 is the Hamlet for the 21st century. The play is timeless and confrontationally topical.

De Warme Winkel

De Warme Winkel is known as one of the most fascinating theatre companies in the Netherlands. They create performances for both small and large venues. They also perform at various locations and abroad. They regularly provide plenty of food for thought with their provocative actions and projects.
