Filmconcert: Metropolis
Almost a hundred years ago, Fritz Lang made his masterpiece Metropolis, a visionary film set in 2026. This autumn, vocal ensemble Wishful Singing brings the film back to life with a new soundtrack.
In Metropolis, the gap between rich and poor is growing: workers keep enormous machines running deep underground, while the elite live in abundance above them. Themes such as class inequality, technology, artificial intelligence, and the malleability of humans prove surprisingly relevant a century later. What is human and what is machine? And what happens when technology can take over our identity?
Wishful Singing combines vocals with bass clarinet, drums, electric guitar, and electronics. Kamperman's soundtrack moves between ghostly vocals, percussion, and electronic sounds. This creates an immersive film concert in which the Metropolis of 1927 enters into a direct dialogue with our world of 2026.
