Feminine Frequencies Nineties Productions / Erasmus Mackenna
There is something wrong with the way we talk; there is a lack of softness and openness. Or perhaps it is not about the words, but about who takes them, who holds them, and who fills the space. In Feminine Frequencies, theatre maker Yannick Noomen confronts himself with his own tendency to take up space.
The essence of femininity
Do you experience a lack of softness and openness in current language use? Or is it more about who is allowed to use the words, keep them, and fill the space with them? In ‘Feminine Frequencies’, theatre maker Erasmus Mackenna explores his own need to take up space.
A search for unheard voices
In collaboration with Jam Factory Art Center in Lviv, Nineties is building a radio studio on stage. As a presenter, Erasmus Mackenna tunes into a different frequency and makes room for a divergent sound. In a country where men populate the front line and women support daily life, he searches for voices that are rarely heard: female thinkers, activists, artists, queer soldiers, and women who keep society running. With his musical partner, the Kyiv-based composer and producer Dima Shastin (promo: Dima Shastin), he explores the airwaves. What female forces manifest themselves when patriarchal structures falter? Why is femininity still considered vulnerable, while that is precisely where new possibilities lie? And how does intersectional femininity continue to exist in times of global crisis? ‘Feminine Frequencies’ is a sensory performance about listening as protest, and about a man with a microphone in his hand, trying to function less as a transmitter and more as a receiver.
