Dead Butterflies, hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, brings a breath of fresh air to the genres of midwest emo, post-hardcore, and screamo. The band enriches their sound with synths, trombone, and electronic samples, resulting in a dynamic and experimental listening experience. Frontman Micah Zimmer started the band in August 2023, with the first songs recorded in his bedroom with limited resources.
Innovative sound and rapid rise
The seven-piece formation, featuring Micah Zimmer (vocals, songwriting), Stella Prewitt (trombone, vocals), Yair Guillen (bass), Josue Hernandez (drums, co-writing), Kai Lathpakdy (guitar), Jonathan Macias (guitar), and Tyler Bautista (trombone, keyboard), is known for their ability to combine raw intensity with moments of 'haunting beauty'. They draw inspiration from the history of emo music, but do not shy away from experimenting with unconventional elements such as brass instruments and IDM-inspired beats. Despite their young age (17 to 19 years old) and a DIY approach, Dead Butterflies has quickly built a significant audience, with more than 32,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. This demonstrates the appeal of their innovative sound and powerful performance.
