DE SITCOM DE HOE
Eight years ago, a theatre collective created a legendary sitcom, with an equally legendary open ending. Now, the group of friends is reuniting to add a sequel to their cult hit.
We are eight years after the legendary sitcom DE SITCOM, created and performed by a theatre collective on the edge of financial ruin. Without a budget, just a real group of friends in a real coffee bar. A TV series that was so rarely authentic and radical, so hilarious and disruptive, so deeply human and tragic, that it immediately became a cult hit. To the bewilderment of the ever-growing fanbase, however, the series had a gaping open ending. Life had mercilessly overtaken fiction.
Eight years later, sitcoms are retro, a genre from a time when laughter was closer to us than tears. Nostalgia has become a business model, and so producers are bringing the group back together. How have they fared? Can they continue together? DE SITCOM is a schizophrenic tragicomedy in which actors with a tragic life have to play that same life, but as a joke. At the same time, you also see the making of that sitcom, including the loves, the breakups, the distrust, the cautious attempts at reconciliation, the betrayal and the hope, always, that it will work out after all. Always the hope for a happy ending.
