De Broers van Arkel - Zeg Maar U

Amsterdam Cabaret Festival finalists 2025: full of absurdity and unexpected poetry

Everyone gets older, but not everyone becomes an adult. The Van Arkel Brothers clearly do. Or at least, they are working on it. Their father, the minister, is retired, and now it is their turn to become someone.

Someone with a vision and a plan. Someone with his own coffee maker, matching tea towels, arch supports, and a 12-piece screwdriver set. Someone who does the weekly grocery shopping every Saturday. Who doesn't doubt everything so much. Who doesn't have to outdo his brother every time. Someone you address formally without even realizing it.

Jeroen and Martijn van Arkel are brothers, theatre makers, and finalists of the Amsterdam Kleinkunst Festival 2025. Both studied at the Utrecht University of the Arts: Jeroen as an actor, Martijn as a writer. In their first full-length show, Zeg maar u (Just Address U), they join forces. The result is a deadpan comedy full of absurdity and unexpected poetry. A quest by two totally different brothers for each other, for masculinity, for the best juicer, and for something to believe in.

The press on “A well-rehearsed comedic duo […] that can count on the loudest laughs with their theatrical, theatrically well-thought-out performance.” – de Volkskrant “With charming acting and their seemingly innocent demeanor, they manage to effortlessly win over the audience.” – AKF Jury Report
