Join us to the village of Dahomey and surrender to a tribute to Black womanhood and the invisible lines between Africa and Suriname. For everyone aged 12 and up who wants to learn about a history that often remains unseen.
On the banks of the Surinamerivier you will find the village of Dahomey. A village that is difficult to understand. Perhaps even mysterious. It is a place of resistance, spirituality and pride. Where you can still feel the past in your entire body and where outsiders are not welcome.
In DAHOMEY, choreographer Dietrich Pott mixes the history of the kingdom of Dahomey with the struggle that black women in Suriname are fighting today. It is an ode to female leaders, spirituality and the power of rituals. An expressive and charged story is told using African dance styles and European modern dance. From raw and intense to intimate and ritualistic. A story without words, told through movement.
DAHOMEY is the sequel to Kromanti, the successful performance that Dietrich Pott created at ISH Dance Collective in 2024. For everyone aged 12 and up who wants to learn about a history that often remains unseen.
