BREL Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Solal Mariotte / Rosas
BREL is a collaboration between Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Solal Mariotte, dancer and emerging choreographer. After graduating from P.A.R.T.S. in 2022, Mariotte, who also has a background in breaking, joined Rosas in 2023 for EXIT ABOVE.
The starting point for this new creation is a selection of compositions by chansonnier Jacques Brel. De Keersmaeker and Mariotte represent very different approaches to choreography and dance. They belong to different generations and have different histories with the singer, who was born in Brussel in 1929 and achieved international fame in the 1950s and 60s. Brel's powerful lyrics are layered, poetic and often political, and evoke a range of moods and emotions. We also immediately recognise the image of Brel, his extraordinary stage presence and expressive gestures. Brel radiates an incredible energy, speaks to and moves his audience in a direct, personal and almost physical way. Although Brel's songs touch on 'timeless' themes, including friendship, relationships, socio-political shifts and violence, they also make shifts in time tangible.

Rotterdam Coffee Fest returns from 5 to 8 November for its second edition. It will feature a more extensive programme, *De Doelen* as a new venue, and four days of coffee culture across Rotterdam.
