In a musical monologue, you follow the journey of someone trying to feel at home in a body that is supposed to be in two places at once. You follow a young man who makes the crossing to Curaçao seventeen times. Braving the ocean seventeen times. Arriving and leaving again seventeen times.
Every return is another attempt to get a grip on the man he was, who he is, and who he wants to become. Each time with the hope that this is the journey on which he finally finds what he is looking for. But what is he actually looking for?
In this performance, Gershwin Bonevacia shows that coming home sometimes means: daring to leave, and that fleeing might actually be a form of searching. And that to heal, you must dare to lose. BLAUWZWART is an exploration of what it means to live in an in-between space. Not here, not there, but somewhere in the tension in between.
