The NDT 2 programme Blast a universe shows a mix of radical choices and poetic expressiveness in the dance world. You will see two well-known works from the NDT repertoire. In addition, you will experience a world premiere by choreographer Noé Soulier. This performance provides context to dance in the past and present.
Reflections by Jiří Kylián
You will experience Sleepless (2004) by Jiří Kylián. This piece originated from his reflections on sleepless hours. Kylián also drew inspiration from the paintings of the Argentine artist Lucio Fontana. Fontana broke with traditional dimensions and opened doors to the unknown in art. In Sleepless, you see complex duets and a fine musicality. It is Kylián's way of letting the poetry of the body speak.
Emotional work by Marco Goecke
Associate choreographer Marco Goecke created The Big Crying (2021) after the passing of his father. Goecke describes it as 'a creation about saying goodbye and about everything we have to burn'. To the music of Tori Amos, the dancers move like broken machines. Goecke's complex and emotional movement language is clearly visible. The Big Crying celebrates the urge to live, even in times of grief and loss. NDT 2 is proud to be able to dance this powerful work again.
