Bassekou Kouyaté & Amy Sacko

Ngoni master Bassekou Kouyaté is living proof that the blues comes from Africa. Together with singer Amy Sacko, he returns to his Malian roots in an intimate concert.

Bassekou Kouyaté is the undisputed master of the ngoni, the traditional West African lute that he single-handedly brought to international stages. With extra strings, electric amplification, and effects, the Malian virtuoso gives the centuries-old instrument an unprecedentedly powerful sound, in which blues, jazz, and traditional Malian music effortlessly blend together. It is not without reason that the Taj Mahal calls him 'a genius and living proof that the blues comes from Mali'.

Kouyaté has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Fuji Rock, North Sea Jazz, and WOMAD, and has collaborated with greats like Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté, and Damon Albarn. In this intimate concert, he returns to his musical roots. Together with his wife, the fantastic singer Amy Sacko, he reinterprets the music of his parents and brings the classical music of Mali to life. A special concert with the intimacy of chamber music. "Ngoni virtuoso Bassekou Kouyaté can make notes bend like light rays in the desert heat." - Time Out Magazine Line-up: Bassekou Kouyaté – ngoni Amy Sacko – vocals
