How do you survive in a system that completely surrounds you on all sides and dictates what is possible, what is not, what is allowed or not allowed? What behavior is expected of the outside world, while a turbulent energy surges within, driving you to something else? We come together to reflect on the (current state of the) world. Our (shared) world according to your (own) image. We want to understand what is going on, but we also find it difficult to listen, and the many images confuse us. Competition disguised as love. Empathy confused with weakness. Authority that supposedly protects. Care that demands subservience. It is a dance; choreography, improvisation, it is theater. This is work.

Asset, Liability & Equity is partly a sleek and sparklingly designed, virtuoso-executed choreography, but it can also evoke an uncomfortable feeling. In an absurdist spectacle with the intensity of an arena, the presenter—the MC of the show—creates an environment in which dancers and audience together feel the toll of capital, entertainment, status, and gratification. In this new production, Connor Schumacher challenges the audience to be more than voyeurs and makes them active participants in the offering.
