Antjie Krog in gesprek met Ena Jansen over Lady Anne

For the first time, Lady Anne by the South African writer and poet Antjie Krog has been translated into Dutch. Emeritus Professor of Afrikaans Ena Jansen speaks with the author about this collection and other publications from her impressive oeuvre.

In Lady Anne, Antjie Krog sketches an epic portrait of the noblewoman Lady Anne Barnard (1750–1825), who lived at the Cape of Good Hope as the wife of a colonial administrator. She was an independent thinker and a brilliant painter and writer, and left behind diaries, correspondence, and watercolors about the colonists and the indigenous population.

Krog connects this South Africa with that of two hundred years later, in the grip of anti-apartheid rage and states of emergency, just before the liberation of Nelson Mandela.

The author will read from their own work and subsequently sign copies.
