Abre los ojos 1997
César (Eduardo Noriega) has everything he could wish for: money, charm and success with women. Until a jealous ex-lover causes a car accident that completely disfigures his face. After a successful reconstruction, his life seems to be heading in the right direction again. But then the first cracks in his perfect existence begin to appear.
Why does Sofia sometimes turn into his ex-lover? Why does no one believe his story? And who is that mysterious doctor who keeps reappearing? In Abre los ojos, Alejandro Amenábar lets the boundary between dream and reality blur further and further. What begins as a stylish Spanish drama about beauty, love and jealousy turns into an oppressive psychological mindfuck in which even César no longer knows which version of his life is real. The film was later remade as Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise.
