A poem for the world NDT 2
The second NDT 2 programme of this season is an ode to the playfulness and humanity that characterises our dancers. A poem to the world brings together two beloved works by choreographer Edward Clug and associate choreographer Crystal Pite, both with live music, alongside a world premiere by celebrated maker Johan Inger.
Playful humanity
The second NDT 2 programme of this season celebrates the playful and deeply human nature of our NDT 2 dancers. The programme brings together two beloved works by associate choreographer Crystal Pite and choreographer Edward Clug, both with live music. In addition, we present a world premiere by the renowned maker Johan Inger.
Discover connections
You will dive back into the playful world of mutual comfort (2015), a work that Edward Clug created for NDT 2. Clug says: ‘The title perfectly describes my experience during the creation of this piece. In just 10 minutes, it captures the essence of my dance universe.’ He focuses on the individual experiences of the dancers and the contradictions that shape us as humans. A quartet plays the composition by Milko Lazar live. The dancers explore connections and the support they offer, which results in moments of beauty and subtle humour.
Strong in solitude, virtuoso in togetherness
In 2019, associate choreographer Crystal Pite was one of the creators of Kunstkamer. Her poetic quartet is now a standalone piece, called Four Solitudes. Pite says about this: ‘Rilke wrote that love consists of “solitude that protects, borders and greets each other”. Love can connect us without limiting our individuality. Four Solitudes shows that contradiction: you are strong in your solitude and at the same time virtuoso in togetherness.’ Schubert’s piano sonata, played live, expresses Pite’s love for dancers and the music that moves them.
