Harbour Wellness opened in Wijnhaven

Jeroen Veenstra

In the middle of the Wijnhaven, between the iconic Wikkelboats of The Red Apple Marina, a floating wellness island has been realised with a barrel sauna, a luxury hot tub, an ice bath and a getaway zone. It is the very first Harbour Wellness in the Netherlands.

Water entrepreneur Sander Waterval, initiator and owner of The Red Apple Marina: "With Harbour Wellness, we bring relaxation and water experience together. On the one hand, we focus on residents who can become members of our Harbour Wellness Club and thus make regular use of our facilities as well as water sports rentals. On the other hand, we welcome tourists and occasional users who can easily book a ticket online or through our hospitality partners for a unique wellness experience in the harbour."

The Harbour Wellness is part of a wider development in the Wijnhaven. Together with restaurant ship Vessel11, among others, multifunctional pontoons were recently added, making the Wijnhaven more attractive and accessible. Herman Lamers' art project, three life-size seals, also enriches the harbour - one of which is even visible from the Wellness.

With Harbour Wellness, Rotterdam gains another innovative water destination that strengthens the connection between city and water. Waterfall's ambition extends further: "Our goal is to roll out the formula to other cities in the coming years."
