Festive opening night for anniversary edition Poetry International Festival

Jeroen Veenstra

Poetry International sees it as an important task to bring the power, quality and versatility of poetry from home and abroad to the attention of as large and diverse an audience as possible. Poetry International does this with the Poetry International Festival, which has been bringing the top of international poetry to Rotterdam since 1970. On Thursday 12 June, the anniversary edition will open at Theater Zuidplein. Choreographer Conny Janssen has created a voorstelling on the theme: Laureates and Legends in which she connects festival poets with dancers. Tickets for the opening night and the rest of the festival are available via this link.

During the special poetry experience, top poets from all over the world will share the stage with some of the Netherlands' best dancers for once. Renowned choreographer Conny Janssen is known for the physical and theatrical strength of her dancers and the diversity of her performances. For the opening programme, she will create a one-off poetic translation of her recent performance ZIEL, a powerful work about humanity, resilience and the elusive inner landscape.

Among the poets participating in the performance are: Diana Anphimiadi, Derek Otte, Tom Lanoye, Maricela Guerrero, Alysia Nicole Harris, Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, Nadia Mifsud, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, Esther Phillips and Astrid H. Roemer.
