Euromast celebrates 65 years with brand new experience: The Rise of Rotterdam

Jeroen Veenstra

De Euromast was built in 1960 in honour of the Floriade and became an unmistakable symbol of Rotterdam. At 185 metres high, the tower offers 360-degree views of the city and port. In honour of its 65th anniversary, the iconic Rotterdam landmark is launching a brand new immersive experience: The Rise of Rotterdam.

The Rise of Rotterdam is an impressive, interactive journey that takes visitors from the city's roots to the vibrant and colourful Rotterdam of today. The visit starts on the ground floor, even before the lift. There, the city's story comes to life in surprising, visually powerful ways.

The experience consists of two parts. In Rotterdam risen from the water, visitors travel back to the year 1270. In the middle of an inhospitable, swampy landscape, they literally build the future of the city together. Light, projection, sound and interactivity bring the origins of Rotterdam intensely to life.

Rotterdam rises from the water

This is followed by A Colourful Panorama which shows how the city has developed into an international metropolis. You will see a colourful skyline, experience the construction of the Euromast during the 1960 Floriade and look with new eyes at today's iconic architecture. Images and sound make the city's energy almost tangible.

"We wanted to create an experience that adds meaning to your visit. Something that makes you not just look, but feel what Rotterdam is and where the city comes from. For tourists, a visit to the Euromast is a perfect start to their visit to the city, for Rotterdammers a unique way to discover their city in a different way,'' says Leonie Staat, general manager of the Euromast.

Colourful Rotterdam: a city full of stories

Euromast offers the story of Colourful Rotterdam. In a series of sensory chapters, visitors experience how Rotterdam is given colour by its people, architecture, landscape and guts. Only after The Rise of Rotterdam do visitors go upstairs. Those who then enter the platform or the Euroscoop look with different eyes at a skyline full of stories.

The Euromast as a beacon of renewal

The arrival of this experience marks a new direction. The tower has long since ceased to be just a viewpoint, but a place where you experience the city from different perspectives. Thanks to a combination of storytelling, smart technology and sensory experience, every visit becomes more meaningful. The Rise of Rotterdam is included in the ticket and adds an extra dimension to the visit.
