In an intimate setting, Ensemble Spirit of Gambo will perform a selection from an exceptional collection of 18th-century music, recently rediscovered in the German castle Ledenburg. This collection includes works by Georg Philipp Telemann and Carl Friedrich Abel, the last great master of the viola da gamba. The warm, soft sounds of this elegant string instrument evoke a deep emotion — just like in the salons of centuries ago. Freek Borstlap and Ivanka Neeleman (viola da gamba) and Jörn Boysen (harpsichord) bring these forgotten gems to life in an atmospheric concert full of tranquility and refinement. The viola da gamba, related to the cello, possesses a rare softness and intimacy that immediately touches the listener.
