In the series of encounters with feminist icons of the twentieth century, after the meeting between Virginia Woolf and Zadie Smith in the previous volume, we inevitably find ourselves in the domain of Simone de Beauvoir, where being a woman is not a given, but a task. A construction. A struggle.

In De Beauvoir and Beyond… we bring this grande dame of the second feminist wave into dialogue with contemporary voices such as Maggie Nelson, Audre Lorde, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, whose razor-sharp analyses and personal strength question, enrich, and challenge De Beauvoir’s legacy.
What does it mean to be a woman today? What remains of the idea 'you are not born a woman, you become a woman'? And which voices do we need to break open that conversation? And how can de Beauvoir help us in these times of global rightward shift full of anti-feminist rhetoric and the demonization of women's rights?
