Warekes is an international collective focused on creating a new folklore without borders. Warekes is an international collective focused on creating a New Folklore without borders.
Founded in 2019 in The Hague by Martín Mayo, Warekes began as a meeting place for musical traditions. Rooted in folkloric melodies and rhythms from Venezuela, the band forges verses about the human experience and against social injustice in all its forms.
It is in this liminal space that Warekes gives birth to the New Folklore, a conscientious yet universally relatable sound that denounces oppression and reflects on the importance of friendship, love, and the little things that make every day just a little more special. Warekes’ first album, Everyday Wonders, is about these little moments and rituals that so many of us share, like making coffee in the morning (“Café mañanero”), or biking home from a party at 3am (“Madrugatonada”), or even tuning our instruments (“Cambur pintón”).
