Toeslagskandal

Based on the story of his own father, Pawlicki tells the story of a Polish-Israeli man who, due to a simple administrative error, finds himself in an endless battle with the tax authorities. As he fights to maintain his dignity, already shaken by his unusual lifestyle, he is confronted with mistrust, social exclusion and a government that violates his privacy.

With a limited command of the Dutch language and an alcohol addiction, he is increasingly marginalized. His children struggle with their feelings about him—his eldest son still helps him where possible, but to the rest of the world he has already been written off. After his death, he is recognized as a victim of the benefits scandal, but the damage is irreparable.
