Tilting Axis 2025 This Is My House
Nieuwe Instituut and Tilting Axis invite you to This Is My House, an evening with Amanda T. McIntyre, the selected Fellow of 2025.
This event delves into the creative findings of Amanda's research experiments on Caribbean masquerade and architectural practices. Through the lens of the Baby Doll character, a traditional carnival performance, Amanda looks at the past and future of Caribbean Carnivals.
This Is My House takes you into Amanda's work, with a lecture on Caribbean architectural and costume practices and a screening of the short film Two Years in the French West Indies , followed by a conversation between Amanda and Quinsy Gario (Sandberg Institute), known for his work Zwarte Piet Is Racisme (2011-2012). Annalee Davis (Tilting Axis) will start with an opening speech and Federica Notari (Nieuwe Instituut) will moderate the evening.
Artist and writer Amanda T. McIntyre, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, is the fifth recipient of the Tilting Axis and Nieuwe Instituut Fellowship. She works as Creative Director and Principal Designer at Dolly Mas Visual and Performing Arts Company. Her project Present Continuous explores digital ways to sustainably archive Caribbean masquerade culture. Through this work, she connects performance studies, queer studies, architecture, and climate justice.
