Hotel New York tells the story of Rotterdam. This building was constructed in 1901 as the headquarters of the Holland America Line. In the more than 100 years that followed, it has witnessed much: trade, migration, war, decay, and the renewal of the city. The film 'The Secret of Hotel New York' portrays all of this.
From archive to Hotel New York
The film makes extensive use of archival material and interviews. In doing so, you discover the stories of people who worked or lived in the building. You see how Hotel New York transformed from an office building into a squat, and eventually into a hotel. It is a lasting symbol of how Rotterdam continually reinvents itself.
