Travel back to 1936

In 1936, Max Woiski Sr. left for the Netherlands to pursue his dream as a musician. He was one of the first Surinamese to set foot here. With his swinging music, he quickly won the hearts of many. Eventually, he opened his own nightclub, La Cubana , on Amsterdam's Leidseplein. The atmosphere in the club was special, and his fame grew.

Father and son Woiski

When Max Woiski Sr. also brings his son Max Woiski Jr. to the Netherlands, success turns out not to bring nothing but joy. Woiski vs. Woiski tells the vivid yet moving life story of this father and son. You experience their complex relationship, both with each other and with the white Netherlands. The story is based on the book Bruine bonen en kouseband.

The start of a trilogy

Woiski vs. Woiski is the first part of the Surinamese-Dutch trilogy. With this production, Orkater and Bijlmer Parktheater tell the history of Surinamese people in the Netherlands. It is a musical theatre performance about a deeply tragic life, presented in an upbeat manner. Michiel Blankwaardt received an Arlecchino nomination for his role as Woiski Jr.
