Soft Leaves
Soft Leaves is the moving and personal debut film by Miwako Van Weyenberg. An intimate coming of age story of a Japanese-Belgian girl in search of identity and recognition.
Yuna (Lill Berteloot) lives with her father Julien (Geert Van Rampelberg), a high jump coach. They get along well. When Julien has a serious fall and ends up in hospital, Yuna is left to fend for herself with her older brother Kai. Their world is turned upside down when their Japanese mother and half-sister come to Belgium to take care of them. Soft Leaves is bathed in carefully chosen warm colours and is carried by the strong performance of new talent Lill Berteloot. The film had its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and was selected for the Ostend Film Festival.
