A woman faces bureaucratic obstacles after her husband’s disappearance as she tries to have his death officially recognized. Her search leads to financial and other problems, after which she suddenly decides to run for parliament. The film had its world premiere at the 45th Cairo International Film Festival in late November 2024, just ten days before the fall of the Assad regime.

This is Said’s first film in which he is openly critical of the regime, which makes the film extra relevant. Salma offers a profound insight into the personal struggles of women amidst political and social turbulence. Salma is a powerful film about restoring humanity in times of conflict and change, and offers Dutch audiences a unique opportunity to experience this European premiere.
