ROD Invites - Queer Cinema

Together with Queer Cinema we have put together a film block with the best queer shorts. Queer Cinema is LantarenVenster's monthly film night in which we celebrate the diversity and creativity of the LGBTQI+ community.

For this film block we invite Queer Cinema to curate a film block for Rotterdam Open Doek Film Festival. Queer Cinema is LantarenVenster's monthly film night where we screen the best queer feature films, offer queer makers a stage and celebrate the diversity and creativity of the LGBTQI+ community.

This time we will show five short films, followed by Q&As with the makers themselves. You are welcome! Program On Hold - Prince de Vos Waiting three years for gender-affirming treatment is no exception in transgender care. What that is like for the trans people whose lives have been on hold for all that time, we see in the documentary On Hold. Growing Pains - Jottum Kok During a camping holiday, two 16-year-old boys are confronted with new feelings that put their close friendship to the test. While Oscar seeks a connection with a group of older boys and girls, Marlon tries to keep his friend close at all costs. Yildiz - Ayla Satijn The Turkish-Dutch girl Yildiz searches for a reason to continue living in faith for herself and her manic-destructive mother. In her search for a right to exist, she escapes into her fantasy. Heart Murmurs - Dorothy Cheung Heart Murmurs is a poetic dialogue between the filmmaker and Dean, a young man living in Hong Kong. Reflecting on his experiences living with a congenital disability and HIV during the early years of the COVID pandemic, Dean expresses his sense of self amid ongoing medical challenges. Red Blood - Gaby Hoekstra In Red Blood, we follow Koen (20), communist and national board member of Red Socialist Youth. From hanging posters at night to leading a demonstration through the streets of Amsterdam, we see how he and his comrades fight for a socialist world.
