Robert Finley
At the age of 62, Robert Finley was discovered on the street by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. With his raw voice, soulful blues and unstoppable energy, he will blow you away. Expect dirty blues rock with a touch of gospel and new work in LantarenVenster!
Better late than never certainly applies to blues and soul singer Robert Finley. The Louisiana-born singer-songwriter and guitarist released his debut album Age Don't Mean A Thing at the age of 62, but has been playing guitar since he was 11. His musical roots lie in gospel, and he refined his style as a bandleader in an army band. Back in Louisiana, he worked as a carpenter until he lost his eyesight—a life-changing experience that led him to focus full-time on music.
His raw voice and compelling sound caught the attention of Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, with whom he has now made four albums. The most recent, Black Bayou (2023), is a fiery ode to his home state, infused with blues, soul, gospel and rock. Finley's performances are intense and inspired. A late bloomer par excellence, who will undoubtedly also perform work from his upcoming album in LantarenVenster.
