A new neighborhood is emerging in Cambodia. Posters displaying dreams for the future hang by unfinished buildings. Alienation and loneliness take center stage in the film Promised Spaces. You see two different realities. On the one hand, there are the construction workers. They build luxury apartments but live in temporary camps on the construction site themselves. On the other hand, there are the people who are going to live in the new apartments. They discover that the neighborhood is still almost empty. The film clearly depicts the inequality.
The cinematography of Ivan Marković
Promised Spaces premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the ACID selection. It is the directorial debut of Ivan Marković, who was previously a cinematographer. This is evident in the beautiful imagery of the film. Every shot is beautiful and could have been framed. It is a film about dreams that do not come true.
