Symphony orchestra Philharmony Midden Zuid begins with Rossini’s spirited overture to The Barber of Seville, followed by the vibrant Spanish colors of De Falla’s El Amor Brujo, featuring mezzo-soprano Emma Nelson and finally the orchestra will perform Mendelssohn’s luminous Italian Symphony No. 4.
The Philharmonie Midden Zuid is a dynamic symphony orchestra that unites passionate and dedicated musicians from across the region. As a high-level amateur ensemble, the orchestra is driven by artistic excellence and a strong sense of community. Founded in 2025, this concert tour marks the orchestra’s official debut. Under the direction of Ghassan Alaboud, the ensemble thrives on collaboration and delivers performances that are captivating, expressive, and full of character. Its members, ranging from advanced students to experienced instrumentalists, share a commitment to making music at the highest level.
Conductor Ghassan Alaboud
Ghassan Alaboud (Montreal) is the principal conductor and co-founder of Philharmonie Midden Zuid. A pianist, orchestral, and choral conductor, he studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, earning a double master’s degree in orchestral and choral conducting, and received his Artist Diploma in orchestral conducting from the Montreal Conservatory. Based in the Netherlands, he leads several orchestras across the country and is recognized for his expertise in symphonic repertoire and his inspiring leadership.
Mezzo-Soprano Emma Nelson
Emma Nelson is a British mezzo-soprano based in the Netherlands. A graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Codarts Conservatory, she began her professional career at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet at the age of 22 and has since appeared in productions such as Britten’s Peter Grimes and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. Alongside her work with ensembles including the Netherlands Chamber Choir and IMMIX Vocal Ensemble, she maintains a versatile career as a soloist, exploring both classical repertoire and cross-cultural projects.
