OEI.
A new play by Erik Bindervoet written for 't Barre Land about the relationship between Oei (ca.1800- ca.1866) and her father, the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849).
It was remarkable that Oei worked and thrived in her father's studio. Women were rarely allowed there. In any case, Oei comes across as a colourful and idiosyncratic figure in the stories and legends that circulate about her despite her existence in anonymity.
