NN Ontbijtconcert

Discover the world of Paul Signac

During the NN Ontbijtconcert at the Kunsthal, you will discover the paintings of Paul Signac and his contemporaries. After breakfast, you will be the first to visit the exhibition Signac. Symphony of Colours. This will be followed by a lecture by writer Jan Brokken and a concert by the DoelenEnsemble. The NN Ontbijtconcert is a collaboration with Nationale-Nederlanden, main partner of Kunsthal Rotterdam.

Signac and his influence

The exhibition Signac. Symphony of Colours displays nearly one hundred paintings by Paul Signac. Together with Georges Seurat, he developed pointillism, a painting technique using dots and short brushstrokes to capture colour and light. The exhibition shows how Signac (1863–1935) influenced other artists, such as Camille Pissarro, Théo van Rysselberghe, Georges Seurat and Jan Toorop. Admire sunny landscapes, colourful portraits and lively harbours and seascapes, from Normandy and Brittany to Saint-Tropez and Rotterdam. Signac was a great music lover and saw a strong connection between music and painting. He used musical terms in his work, in which colour, rhythm and harmony played an important role.
