Nawras Altaky & Young Jazz Society o.l.v. Tijn Wybenga

In the Fractal project, Young Jazz Society joins forces with Syrian singer and ud player Nawras Altaky. Together they explore the interfaces between big band jazz and Arabic music.

Nawras Altaky is an emerging name in the Dutch music scene. His work moves between traditional Arabic folk music and contemporary jazz, with plenty of room for narrative melodies, improvisation and complex rhythms. He uses scales, harmonies and quarter tones that are unusual in Western music, which is an inspiring challenge for Young Jazz Society.

During this concert, the young orchestra will play nine dynamic compositions by Altaky, arranged by Tijn Wybenga (also conductor), Oene van Geel (violinist and permanent musical partner of Altaky) and Osama Abdul Rasol (arranger at Brussels Jazz Orchestra).
