Filmmaker Wim Wenders takes the viewer on a visually breathtaking journey of discovery in his documentary Pina.
A breathtaking film by Wim Wenders in which dancers take you on a journey of discovery through the impressive landscapes of the Ruhr area. Let yourself be carried away by the enchanting world of Pina Bausch. What was supposed to be a documentary about her life became – after her sudden death – a modern dance film with 'Tanztheater Wuppertal' and the city in the leading role. The dancers of her world-famous ensemble bring her working method to life. The result: a visually stunning journey, full of dance, theatre and emotion.
Not only the dance ensemble's stage comes to life, but also the streets, squares and beautiful landscapes surrounding Wuppertal, the city that was Pina's creative home for over 35 years. Between the impressive Wuppertaler Schwebebahn, the industrial heritage in Zollverein and the SANAA cube, Pina's dance art jumps off the screen. An adventurous ode to a versatile choreographer, her work, the landscape and the power of dance.
A special film deserves a special location. Pina will be shown in the Paradijskerk on the Nieuwe Binnenweg. The film is in German and has English subtitles. Dance, music and theatre are the main characters, which is why the film is also easily accessible for viewers who are less proficient in English.
