Mooren / Watson / Kay / Irons

The qualities of “our own” Femke Mooren are now known beyond the national borders as well.

The qualities of “our own” Femke Mooren are now known beyond the national borders as well. For instance, she was recently invited to perform at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. She played there together with three young Scottish jazz musicians. This was such a resounding success that the festival decided to organize a small tour through the Netherlands. And where better to start than in Femke’s hometown, on the stage she single-handedly sold out earlier this year.

Bassist and composer Ali Watson garnered widespread praise for his debut album Terrarium, with UK Jazz News noting that the music possesses “an unwavering positive sense of real purpose and focus.” Tenor saxophonist Harben Kay — winner of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award — is rapidly being recognized as one of the UK’s most creative jazz artists and is described as “… simply outstanding” (Jazz Views). The whole is held together by drummer Greg Irons, one of the most sought-after musicians in the Scottish scene, who brings the rhythmic intelligence and sensitivity that have made him a cornerstone of the Glasgow jazz generation.

In the quartet Mooren / Watson / Kay / Irons, various musical voices come together, united by a shared creative curiosity – a project that embodies the very best of international jazz.
