Maximapark - from Greenhouses to a Living Landscape
Máximapark is one of the most ambitious projects in Dutch landscape architecture: a flourishing public park where nature conservation and the local community come together. The film guides us through the remarkable transformation the park has undergone from a production landscape in the green heart of Leidsche Rijn, one of the largest urban expansion projects in the Netherlands.
From greenhouse landscape to blooming park
Twenty years ago, the area around Utrecht consisted primarily of greenhouses. Today, the Máximapark is one of the Netherlands' most progressive landscape architecture projects. This flourishing public park unites nature conservation with a strong sense of community. The park was designed by West8 and includes De Vlinderhof, an inner garden designed by Piet Oudolf.
The transformation of the Máximapark
In the film, landscape architect Adriaan Geuze takes you through the remarkable transformation of a production landscape into the green heart of Leidsche Rijn. This is one of the largest recent urban expansion projects in the Netherlands. The film highlights landscape architecture as a continuous process of management and care. Volunteers, ecologists, and park visitors talk about the ongoing work required to keep the park vibrant throughout all seasons.
