About 'Taiwan Travelogue' by Yang Shuang-zi

'Taiwan Travelogue' is a novel by Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi, translated by Lin King. The book won the International Booker Prize in 2026, the National Book Award for Translated Literature in 2024, and Taiwan's Golden Tripod Award in 2020. Set in 1938, the story follows the journey of Japanese novelist Aoyama Chizuko to Taiwan, where she develops a complex relationship with her Taiwanese interpreter, Ō Chizuru. The novel explores themes such as colonialism, same-sex love, gender relations, and food culture through a "metafictional" lens. This is an opportunity to learn more about modern Taiwanese literature and its global impact.
