Maarten Hogenhuis Trio
Saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis combines jazz, electronics, and improvisation in a trio that offers a contemporary interpretation of Cole Porter's compositions. In this way, Hogenhuis returns to his core.
Saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis has been making waves in recent years. He's worked with Thomas Azier, among others, where free improvisation and pop surprisingly intertwine, and forms a duo with Jesse van Ruller, experimenting with flutes, electronics, and effects. Yet, most listeners know him primarily as the saxophonist with BRUUT!, the power jazz group with an irresistible mix of genres and energy.
After all these musical wanderings, Hogenhuis decided to revive his trio. With bassist Phil Donkin and drummer Mark Schilders, he recorded an album of Cole Porter's music in a single day—mostly one-takes that showcase the trio's close bond.
Expect a concert that merges modern sounds, electronics, and centuries-old compositions, with the interplay of these three musicians as the radiant centerpiece.
