La cérémonie
Sandrine Bonnaire and Isabelle Huppert bring out the worst in each other.
The thriller *La cérémonie* follows a housekeeper (Sandrine Bonnaire) for a wealthy French art dealer and his family in Brittany. She befriends a rebellious post office clerk (Isabelle Huppert) who has her own hidden sides. Jeanne incites Sophie to rebel against her employers, after which the tension steadily rises. According to Chabrol, the film was intended as 'a Marxist film about the class struggle'. Based on the crime novel *A Judgement in Stone* by the British author Ruth Rendell. Sandrine Bonnaire and Huppert received a shared Silver Lion for their acting performances at the Venice Film Festival.
